Don’t forget, the Reinland golf tournament is today. If you’re coming out, you will want to bring your golf clubs, but if you forget you can probably rent some, but you will need some balls, but you can probably buy those if you forget. What you will most definetly need is your passport. If you foget that you will have a tough time since the tournament is being held at the golf course in Walhalla ND. Make sure you give yourself a bit of time to cross the border before tee off.

Eden Tractor Trek kickoff breakfast
Well it’s a little late, but here’s a bit of info about the breakfast last week that kicked off the Eden Tractor Trek. Preparations started before 7:00am and the kitchen was a flurry of activity by the time the trekkers started rolling in. The usual fair was prepared, eggs cracked, peppers chopped, cheese grated, ham sliced, and of course coffee and biscuits which every Reinland breakfast must have.
I was up extra early and did my part to help out including frying a few omelets and then as demand grew making a few pancakes as well.
As you can see, we make a lot of pancakes. This was the main pancake cooking station.
To help deal with the heat in the kitchen, the Ham and sausage cooking was moved outside to a grill which I’m sure helped draw the crowd in more quickly. The smell of the sizzling ham was enticing even after I had eaten.
After the tractors started their trek and most of the crowd had left, we had a bit more excitement. Well to be fair it may only be exciting to a city kid like me. North of the village there was a field that was bing sprayed and the crop duster flew right over the top of the community centre. Now I’m used to planes flying overhead, but not when they’re close enough to see who’s in them. So for the people who read this who don’t get to see crop dusters I took a few pictures.

Eden Tractor Trek and Community Breakfast: July 16, 2011
Once again, The Eden Foundation is putting on a Tractor Trek to raise money for community mental health, and once again, our own Armin Ens is at the forefront. As last year, it begins in Reinland with a community breakfast.
The breakfast itself runs from 7:30-10:30, and will buffet-style this year, so people won’t have to wait as long for their breakfasts. As registration for the Trekkers begins at 8, you probably won’t see many tractors before then. The opening ceremony is at 10, outside the community center.
Breakfast is open to everyone who wants to come by. Trek participants’ breakfast is included in their registration, and for everyone else, it’s by donation.
See you there!
Life gets in the way sometimes…
I’m sure you’d all love to see more content on reinland.ca. We would, too. Unfortunately, gathering information, taking pictures, writing stories, and finding people to contribute stories/pictures all take time… not to mention the time it takes to format and upload things.
Right now, our esteemed webmaster and primary content provider is working insane hours (I believe last week’s average day was 11.5 hours), which doesn’t leave much time for any of that. Or, for that matter, anything at all, except eating, sleeping, and trying to stay acquainted with one’s spouse. This is a bit of a problem, and we’re seeking solutions.
One such solution would be sleeping less, but when I put that particular solution out there, it was shot down immediately. Another would be finding people who would like to contribute the occasional article or picture. Still another… well, can’t really think of another at the moment, although I’m sure someone brighter than I can come up with something.
If you have suggestions or solutions, put them in the comments.
If you have contributions, email them to linda at reinland dot ca.
Spring ishappening in Reinland
Well Spring must surely be here. There are sings of it all over the village. And one of my favourite signs says that there is a community breakfast this Saturday. I can almost smell the biscuits now. The usual tasty foods will be prepared by your friends and neighbours. It is a good time enjoyed by many, you should come out too.
Well we were out and about last week and I saw this beautiful view and had to share it with you.
I always thought that a misty day needed to include some jazz music and a loved one to share it with. This was taken Sunday afternoon, and I did enjoy some good music and the company of my wife after this picture was taken. Well before too, but I’m not a poet, so…
Actually I kinda wanted to put on rubber boots and wade through the puddles, but I don’t have any that fit right now.
Spring is here, get out there and enjoy it, and we’ll see you on Saturday.
Evening in Reinland
I went to college many years ago and studied photography. I have used all sorts of different cameras and found that the best camera is the one that you have with you, and that the smaller the camera the more likely it is that you will have it with you. You can see evidence of this by looking at all the pictures that people take with their cell phones.
So I found a small camera that fits in my pocket. The problem with small cameras is that even though they are small enough to take with you, they are also small enough to lose. So a few weeks ago I was showing my in-laws some pictures that I had just taken, and then I set it down while we had coffee and promptly lost it. This meant that I couldn’t share this photo with you until now.
From the first time I took a picture at night I’ve always been facinated by the way long exposures make everything look magical. My newest digital camera is the first one that does a decent job of long exposures. I’ll try to bring you a few more of these in the coming weeks.
Well it’s a little late, but here are some pictures from the Old Colony church move to Gnadenthal. I was lucky enough to capture a few images as the church moved past Heartland Fresh Pak on it’s way to a new foundation just off Hwy 201.
I saw the last time I drove past it’s new home that construction is progressing at a good pace on the new foyer and I’m sure there will be many happy people celebrating a new church home very soon.

Do you know some low-german?
Tryouts are tonight for the next low-german play in the Community Centre at Reinland. Come out and see if there is a part for you to play in the next amazing production. I don’t have any details about what the play is or when rehersals will be, but you can find out more tonight at the community centre.
