French Onion Soup

I found this on in the food section. It's relatively simple, but takes a while to make. Time and not effort is the key ingredient. Also a slow cooker.

1 Large or 2 medium onions
1 Tbs. bacon drippings
2 Tbs butter
1 C. white wine
1 litre beef broth

Put the onions, bacon fat and butter into a slow cooker on high for 4-5 hours. Stir once or twice in the first hour. Add wine and beef broth. Serve with toasted bread and Gruyere cheese. Usually the bread is floated on top of the soup and the cheese sprinkled on top and broilled to melt and brown just a bit.

Trying this today, should be good.
